It is a unified effort to promote greater public awareness and understanding of mental health and mental illness. Every year, thousands of people across the world raise awareness and funds for mental health causes.
Each year, on 10 October, the Mental Health Foundation celebrates the day by raising awareness about mental health and wellbeing. (source: Mental Health Foundation website [link]
I know I'm a tad late, officially World Mental Health Day was yesterday. But I'd like to take this opportunity to highlight a few resources right here on DeviantArt that have come to my attention over the last months, which deal with Mental Health amongst others.
Mental Health, or lack thereof, is something I've had to deal with every day for the past couple of years. I've been hospitalised on a number of occasions, fought suicidal feelings, and just generally had to deal with a load of crap. But what almost hurt more than the illness itself was some of the attitude I encountered amongst other people. Lack of understanding, coupled with ignorance and fear and prejudice doesn't really help anybody dealing with Mental Health issues.
So I've looked through DA, trying to find people who tell their story through the various media avalaible to them.

Anorexic BallerinaAs the melody begins
The spotlight showers her frail body
A smile paints her fleshless face
As she drifts away from her frozen pose
And melts into her own shadow

To an empty audience of hollow souls
The story of this damsel remains unnoticed
As she glides across the stage with true solemness
Her spirit soars freer with every movement
For in this moment, she no longer need be
A feeble alembic of hidden distress
At last, unchained from eyes of disapproval
She dances her heart out with the littlest compulsion
To hide behind an obscure veil of unfeasible perfection
She finally liberates he

I'd like to finish with a quote from =RosaryOfSighsx, whose picture is the first I featured. The quote sums up pretty much everything I wanted to say but couldn't.
Mentally ill people should be shown the same compassion and understanding as those with physical illnesses.
It's about the silent suffering and agony of the mentally ill. It's about the stigma we have faced, and the shame for a disease that is not our fault. It's for the hurt and pain that is out of our control.
WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY: OCTOBER 10.
Be aware, speak up and speak out
for others and for yourself.
Thank you =RosaryOfSighsx!
We are not alone.

Thanks for getting the word out there.
People had a really negative outlook on people who suffer from mental illnesses and its quite sad, too. No one really knows what they go through on a daily basis.
